Port Jackson Cemetery Investigation

Not much is known about this cemetery but it’s located off a rural road in Crawford County and near the small town of Sainte Marie, population of 240 in 2018. There is a small town nearby called Port Jackson which is 6 miles southwest of Flat Rock, Illinois. It is just a little north-northeast of the Embarras River.

There is a least on Mason grave on the property.

Address: South of E. 100th Avenue between N 800th & N 900th Streets, in Honey Creek Township, Crawford County near Flat Rock, 6 miles NE of Port Jackson, Illinois 62427

GPS: 38° 51’ 893”, 087° 47’ 332”

Hauntings: Balls of light have been seen at night floating through the cemetery. The center of the cemetery seems to be the most active near a large cedar tree. Bigfoot sightings have occurred here and locals call the alleged beast, She Ape.

Weird sounds have been heard at night and it’s not very far from running water.

The Ghost Research Society investigated Port Jackson Cemetery on August 29, 2020 and the team members included: Mike Rosario, Kelly Griffey and Dale Kaczmarek, with help from Jason Snider, Jason Dickerson, Courtney Mendenhall and Ed Reese from Crawford County Illinois Ghost Hunter's Society

Equipment setup: Hand-held and static Sony Nightshot IR camcorders were used, ParaTek app and digital tape recorders and cameras.

Experiments performed: EVP, ParaTek and Sangean Ghost Box AM sessions were conducted in the center of the cemetery. This was a brief stop along the way to other locations that we visited and investigated that weekend.

Personal experiences:

Kelly Griffey: At Port Jackson cemetery, I have 3 sound files (#9, 10 & 11) that seem to pick up a higher pitched tone.  I can’t tell if it’s just a mosquito sound or if there is a verbalization.

Mike Rosario: I believe this was our first stop when members of GRS arrived in Crawford County on Friday, August   28, 2020   at   around   2:30p.m. The following equipment that I used to investigate with here were: a K-II Meter, a Sony Night Shot Handy-Cam DCR-TRV13 NTSC 560 Digital-8 20X Optical Zoom Video Camcorder, an Amzdeal Tri-pod, a Green Laser Grid, a Philips Voice Recorder, an iPhone8 Cellular Phone (for pictures and video), and a Police Security Elite Blackout 615 Lumen Hands-free Heavy-Duty Head Strap Flashlight.  I wanted to bring the extra nighttime equipment if the weather turned grim or if the daylight were to fade at any moment during the investigation. However, the average weather for all of these investigations was clear, hot, near around 86° or so, but the temps dropped significantly during our nighttime investigations. I photographed a few known hotspots within the cemetery, and Jason did a Facebook Live session as well. From my investigation there at the cemetery, all alluded to no results of audio or visual evidence.

Dale Kaczmarek: A very secluded cemetery that was pretty quiet as far as evidence was concerned. I was able to pick up five direct responses with the ParaTek and Sangean Ghost Box that answered specific questions with names which was pretty cool.

We didn’t spend a lot of time here as there were so many other locations to visit during our three days with CCIGHS.

Evidence collected:

Abe Lincoln Jackson.MP4 – while conducting a Sangean Ghost Box sweep on the AM band, a question was asked, “Who’s the president of the United Stated right now?” The device seemed to respond almost immediately with a name that sounds like, “Abe Lincoln.”

Bob Jackson.MP4 – while conducting a Sangean Ghost Box sweep on the AM band, a question was asked, “Can you tell me your name?” The device responds with a clear male voice that says, “Bob.”

Fire Elsie Jackson.MP4 – while conducting a ParaTek session, the word “Fire” came through; a question was then asked, “who died in a fire?’ The device responded with, “Elsie.”

Ghosts Jackson.MP4 – while conducting a Sangean Ghost Box sweep on the AM band, a question was asked, “Are there any ghosts or spirits wishing to communicate with us tonight?” The device responds with what sounds like, “Ghosts.”

Peggy Jackson.MP4 – while conducting a ParaTek session, a question was asked, “Is there anyone out here that wished to communicate with us? Can you tell us your name?” The device responded with, “Peggy.”

Words spoken on the ParaTek app: Peggy, hull, inches, Z, panel, inner, fatal, yes, Layla, he, until, sample, indeed, said, ran, abyss, you bet, you have, growl, tail, bath, bend, gauze, kept, indirect, fire, Elsie, nothing and band.

Words spoken by the Sangean Ghost Box in AM mode: ghost, Bob, Abe Lincoln, Ed and what.

Conclusions: This was an interesting place, off the beaten path. This was sort of a side-trip on route to other locations. Since there were reports of strange lights and Bigfoot activity, it would have been better to investigate this at night. Almost all of the strange phenomena happened after the sun went down; however it was a place to scope out for a future trip and at night.

A lot of names came through our real-time devices such as: Peggy, Layla, Elsie, which are older names as well as Bob, Ed and perhaps Abe Lincoln! The word “growl” came through and I find that a bit interesting due to possible cryptid activity here.

A nighttime trip here would be worth it in the future!
