On Monday at 2:45pm, September
9, 2013, 40-year-old, Johnnie L. “John” Frederic, (11-3-72/9-9-13) of
Lawrence County, Illinois was found dead from injuries he sustained in a
motorcycle accident. The Lawrence County Sheriff's
Department received a call from the Illinois Department of Transportation Monday
concerning a crash at U.S. 50 and Lake Lawrence Road, about two miles east of
the Indiana state line, according to state police. Frederick, riding a 2002
Harley-Davidson, was eastbound on the exit ramp when the bike left the roadway
to the left and continued traveling east through a grassy area before coming to
rest on its side.
There was some speculation that
he was not immediately found and died from his injuries. According to the local
fire department personnel, the victim may have laid out there for a couple of
days before being discovered. He was eventually buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery in
St. Francisville, Illinois on 1370E and established in 1883.
Jennifer had dated Frederick
several times and they were good friends.
Hauntings: Girlfriend, Jennifer Adams, who had to travel home right
past the location where Frederick lost his life, was talking on a cell phone to
her girlfriend, Cathy Herrington. As she approached the exact location, she
claimed that she heard the sound of Frederick’s voice come through her IPhone
using Verizon as her service. According to further research, Cell One and
AT& T with their GSM carrier sometimes act like a Cross Talk and sometimes
you might pick up other people’s conversations. It never, according to
research, happens on Verizon. The friend that she always talks to the on the way
home to make sure she gets home safely, doesn’t have Verizon.
It was very brief and stopped as
she passed the location of his demise. Sometimes, a “hello” would quickly
come through. Apparently her friend, Cathy, whom she was talking to on the
phone, did not hear the interference or sounds. This happened several times at
the exact same location and always around 11:30pm to Midnight. Jennifer also
stated that she believed that it started around Christmas time. It is always the
same voice according to Jennifer.
She has since got a new Android
phone and apparently it hasn’t happened since. Sometimes all of her car lights
go off when approaching the location.
Location: IL-33 near Lawrenceville, Illinois and approximately at:
38.42207 N, 87.3322.4 W on the north side of IL-33.
The Ghost Research Society investigated the site of a fatal motorcycle crash on IL-33 near Lawrenceville, IN on August 3, 2019 and the team members included: Mike Rosario and Dale Kaczmarek, with help from Jason Snider, Jason Dickerson, Courtney Breanne, Donovan Hall and members of the Crawford County Illinois Ghost Society and Joann Wade
Equipment setup: Digital recorders and camcorders were place within
the car to see if this phenomenon could be duplicated.
Experiments performed: There were two sessions in which cameras and
digital recorders were placed in the vehicle. During the first experiment, it
was just Jennifer and her friend in the car along with a digital recorder. The
second experiment, Rosario and I accompanied Jennifer. Several digital recorders
were placed in the vehicle, Rosario was using Snider’s phone to continue with
a live Facebook video and Kaczmarek was filming the entire segment using a Sony
Nightshot camcorder.
Jennifer drove past the location
on both sessions, talking with the same person that she had been conversing with
when the paranormal event took place. The first of the two sessions started
around 9:15pm. This was a bit earlier than she encountered the voices; 11:30pm
to Midnight.
Personal experiences: While conducting the first session, something
came through the live feed and Snider actually lost his signal while crossing
the bridge. There was also the sound of something falling over in the back seat
of the car and we could later never determine what had caused the sound.
After we had tried two runs past
the bridge area we all stopped at the actual site of his death and
I ran an Ovilus X session in dictionary modes and got the following
words: “cents, beach and these” and one single word came through in phonetic
mode; “help.”
Evidence collected: Nothing
Words spoken by the Ovilus X in dictionary mode: cents, beach and
these; in phonetic mode – help.
Conclusions: It’s difficult to attempt to draw any conclusions
based on the experiments that we conducted. There was a lot of road and car
noise that may have drowned out some EVPs that might have been captured. Also
since Jennifer’s encounter here originally happened on an IPhone and not an
Android, I often wonder if that could make a difference. Perhaps even the phone
service and cell towers in the area could have contributed to this ghostly
effect.
In my lifetime, I have never
heard of anyone receiving communications from a dead loved one via a cell phone.
However, a rather lengthy scientific study was conducted by D. Scott Rogo and
Raymond Bayless concerning individuals receiving some form of communication from
departed souls via the telephone. In their groundbreaking book, “Phone
Calls From the Dead” (Berkeley Books – Prentice Hall, 1979, ISBN:
0-425-04559-5), they cite numerous cases of actual contact from the other side.
This was long before cell phones were on the market.
In my opinion, it is almost
unheard of for someone to receive contact from those who have passed on via a cell phone.
More studies of this phenomenon will have to take place before we can know the
truth behind this spooky event.
