Revenant Acres Farm Investigation 2019

This 30 acre farm in Hancock County Indiana was built in 1833. The original house was once built a bit closer to the street but then moved back to its present location. The land was first purchased in 1826 by Josiah VanMeter, Sr. According to the land title; Josiah sold a portion of the land to John VanMeter and his heirs for $2000 in 1847. It isn’t certain who actually built the structure which stands there today.

Some believe that the high school across the street is haunted as well.

Located at 10547 E. US 40, Charlottesville, IN 46117

Telephone: 317-671-7879

Owners: Charles & Nancy Peters

Hauntings: In the first Bedroom on the main floor, people very vertigo or a fun-house effect but the floor is actually somewhat slanted to one side which probably explains that strange feeling.  Voices have been heard and talking within the room. A past investigator’s hair was pulled from behind.

In the Living Room area people in the past used the Ganzeld Effect, which is German for “entire field”. This is a sensory deprivation experiment where the eyes and ears are covered and questions are then asked. The experimenter then says either what comes through their minds or equipment such as a ghost box. Past experiments here yielded good results.

Two sisters conducted an EVP session in the Piano Room when one saw the other’s face morph. Voices are often heard and a female presence has been encountered by the door near to the piano.

In the upstairs Landing a past group captured a “stick figure” with an X-Cam SLS device by the broken rocking chair and it appeared to be a small figure, possibly a child.

In the upstairs Bedroom shadow figures pacing back and forth in the landing area have been seen. A possible name encountered here is Johnnie, which is interesting as the first owner of this property was named John.

Our guide, Rachel, saw a white cloud or mist form in this room and had also encountered a tall black figure near the light. The figure appeared to be crouching. This room is most active between 11pm-2am. Rachel believes that the location is haunted due to all the past group experiences.

Some past investigators say some young children are indeed present here and one team member heard a little girl giggling by the barn.

During the last investigation conducted by the GRS, Williams heard a female out front.

Equipment setup: Hand-held equipment was used and transported from room to room including Ovilus X, Phasma Box, REM Epod, digital trap camera, Nightshot cameras, digital recorder, Melmeter and Armenia app.

The Ghost Research Society investigated the Revenant Acres Farm on March 18, 2019. Team members included: Chuck Williams and Dale Kaczmarek

Experiments performed: EVP, Ovilus X, Phasma Box and Armenia sessions were conducted in the Living Room, upstairs Bedroom and the Kitchen. A REM Epod was placed on the edge of the piano and a Melmeter was positioned in a lounge chair while conducting downstairs sessions. While upstairs the X-Cam SLS device was used along with a REM Epod. Digital trap camera pictures were taken throughout the building as well as outside and near the barn.

Personal experiences:

Charles Williams: Hauntings:  Footsteps, shadow figures, EVPs, Disembodied voices, 2 possessions, video of a K-II meter flying off the piano.

Equipment:  GoPro camera, Zoom recorder, K-II Meter, Melmeter, REM-Epod.

Experiments:  EVP, Ghost Box, Ovilus X, Phasma Box sessions.  I like to use the REM Epod as a device to watch my back.  I left mine in the kitchen of this farm house.  It never went off the entire night.  Neither did the K-II Meter, stayed on 1 green light.

Personal Experiences:  Dale reported seeing something human like move outside the kitchen window during equipment set up.  I had none this time.  Both of us noticed battery drain.  I noticed upon early evidence review that the GoPro had 2 sessions record 3-4 min, and the other about 14-16 min.  Will recharge batteries, and test them next hunt to see if it was truly battery drain, or just batteries going bad.

Sessions:  3 sessions held, roughly 3 hours of investigation.  Small dwelling, crew, and dropping temperatures without heat were contributing factors to limited time investigation.  We had 1st session in living room, 2nd in upstairs bedroom, 3rd in kitchen.  Mixed findings on devices.  Nothing to write home about occurred during this investigation.  After seeing evidence collected on their website, I thought all hell might break loose the 1st time I was here.  Like this investigation, things were quiet, but had interesting evidence turn up.  No shadow people, footsteps, flying equipment or disembodied voices noted.

Conclusions:  Am looking forward to evidence review.  I have watched the video thus far, and only an EVP of a cat noise was noticed.  I am also looking forward to check on battery drain.  I am sad to see this place leave the paranormal landscape.  Our guide seems to think the family will tear down the house since the owner’s death.

Dale Kaczmarek: Even before we started the investigation and while it was still light outside, I could have sworn that I saw a dark male figure out the kitchen window in the back yard. This was long after Rachel had departed the property and it was a very brief sighting.

I ran a Facebook live video in the Living Room. There is a piano there and I set the REM Epod on the left-end on top of the piano. I then proceeded to tap on the two highest keys like Bill Murray did in Ghostbusters and said that “They hate this.” Almost immediately the device began to react and all the lights lit up. Unfortunately no cameras had yet been set up. But I assume the spirits didn’t appreciate my attempt at a little humor.

Nothing was captured on video so all the evidence collected that evening was audio. The moon was full and the entire outside area was lit up almost like daylight.

I shot a number of digital trap camera pictures but inside and outside the building including the barn area which was off limits due to danger of collapse. This was a hotspot with the sounds of children. None were evidenced that evening.

It was a very cold evening with temperatures in the low 40s and it wasn’t much warmer inside the building as there was no heat. There was limited electricity but no running water or toilets.

Conclusions: This was a great location and I’m very sad that it might eventually be destroyed as the owner passed away recently. Rumor has it that the area where the house sits today might simply become a farming field. I believe that whatever spirits call this location home might still remain attached to the property especially if they lived here for a long time and loved it. Even though today, the building isn’t much to look at, I can tell that it was once a very beautiful site and home to several families.

The month of March was supposed to be the last month to investigate this location, Perhaps it might remain standing for a bit longer for travelers to visit if not investigate.
