St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Investigation

St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery was established in 1841 by Catholics in the area. Gilberts was, at that time, a very rural area, mostly composed of farmland. The burials that took place here in the early days were for farmers who lived in the area and cultivated the land.

Address: Tyrell Road (County Hwy 59), Gilberts, IL 60136

Hauntings: The cemetery is guarded by a ghostly sentry. Those who walk into the cemetery during daylight hours often say that they feel a presence at the front gate that is watching over the cemetery. Some have actually seen the guardian. They report seeing an older man who stands by the gate holding a green lantern. They claim to feel a peaceful feeling about him.

Sometimes some will see a green ball of light floating through the cemetery at night. Perhaps this is the man with the green lantern walking through the cemetery looking for intruders.

Equipment setup: All hand-held equipment was used like digital cameras, camcorders and recorders, Phasma Box app.

Experiments performed: An Ovilus X and Phasma Box sessions were conducted at various sites in the cemetery.

Personal experiences:

Dale Kaczmarek: This was more of a scouting adventure to various sites to see how they would pan out for possible future full-scale investigations. It was a very peaceful place in lieu of all the paranormal stories that I was able to collect. It was a chilly but very sunny day out during our visit.

Only a single intelligence response was obtained and it was a name.

Evidence collected:

Eric St Marys.MP4 – while conducting an Ovilus X session in phonetic mode, a question was asked, “Mine name’s Dale; what’s yours?” The Ovilus responded with, “Eric.”

Words spoken by the Ovilus X in phonetic mode: Eric.

Conclusions: Even though we devoted two full sessions; one with the Ovilus X and the other with the Phasma Box app, we only got one reply and I believe it to be an intelligent one as I asked for a name and immediately the Ovilus X in phonetic mode said, “Eric.” This is pretty amazing as we weren’t using the Dictionary Mode so the spirit that was probably present during our visit had to create this word by putting together vowels and consonants to form his name.

This location will require more investigating with much more equipment and time allotment.
