Tinker Swiss Cottage Investigation 2017

The Tinker Swiss Cottage is a historic place, museum, and park in Rockford, Illinois, USA. It was built as a personal residence by Robert Hall Tinker in the1860s. It is now a popular destination for school trips and wedding receptions.

Robert Hall Tinker was born in Honolulu to missionary Reuben Tinker (1799–1854) and his wife Mary Throop Wood (1809–1895) in 1836. Tinker moved to Rockford in 1856, where he was employed as an accountant by Mary Dorr Manny, the wealthy widow of John H. Manny of the Manny reaper works. Tinker traveled Europe in 1862 and was greatly impressed by the estates and gardens he had seen there. On his return to Rockford, Tinker built himself a 20-room Swiss-style cottage on a limestone bluff overlooking the Kent Creek and the home of Mary Manny. In 1870 Robert and Mary were married, becoming Rockford 's most influential couple. Tinker was mayor of Rockford in 1875 and a founding member of the Rockford Park District.

Upon the death of the Tinkers, the cottage was left to the Rockford Park District. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on December 27, 1972.

Equipment setup: Teams were Jim in the Barn, Stan and Greg in the Carriage House, Barbara in the Basement of the Main House and Dale in the Red Room on the 2nd floor of the main house. I set up the Tri-Field Natural EM Meter in the doorway to the “Red Room”, used a Melmeter with proximity probe and debuted the GRS’s newest device, The Radio Specter which is an AM sweeper.

Experiments performed: EVP, Ghost Box, Ovilus X and Dowsing Rod sessions were conducted in the Red Room, downstairs Canning Room, Carriage House, the Barn and other rooms in the main house.

Personal experiences:

Jim Piscopo: We arrived about 6:15 and received our assignments. I was to be in the barn by myself .I set up my Sony camcorder with night vision and an extra IR light facing the closet door and lock. I also used a SB-7 spirt box for EVP's.

Before starting everyone met in the barn and was divided into groups and then went to their appointed rooms. Before we started our EVP session someone had to go to the ladies room. As she opened the door she said a shadow walked past her and out of the restroom. We started asking questions without much response. I then asked what is your favorite color and got the answer "black" .We had more responses after that but I have to listen to the cd's to make them out. One lady said she started having a pain in her left foot, the same foot John had lost in a train accident.

Other than that not much happened in our room

Greg Kos: Participants included Dale, Stan, Jim, Barbara and I

Carriage House was manned by Stan and I

EVP sessions - Nothing upon review

Dowsing Rods - young person male hung around and played but they were not a Tinker.

Camera on movie mode nothing

Barbara Meagher: All investigations were done in the Summer kitchen in the basement of the Tinker Swiss Cottage. Steve the curator was present as well throughout.

First session was stared at 7:37pm and lasted 33 min 32 secs. Group 4 was first. One person in group got the name Rhonda on their spirit box. The new batteries on the spirit went dead during the first 6 minutes of the recording. There were new batteries put into equipment just before the start of the investigation. There were some unintelligible responses to questions, possible the name Cloe. We also got the word Thanks and when asked if you like to cook in here we got the answer “Yep”. Several times during the session all the lights on the EMF meter lit upon request. We got the word cancer, and one of the residents of the house did have breast cancer, Marsha. Again, when we asked Marsha to light up the lights on the EMF meter the lights did all go one. When asked if any spirit could turn on the light with the telegraph type handle the spirit box clearly stated no. We also got the word November several times.

Second session was with group 3 started at 8:21 lasting 29 min 57 sec. Using the spirit box we received the answer “Chicken when asked what was favorite meal cooked here and what “Hannah” was the answer received to who was your favorite cook. Several participants heard bangs and noises in other parts of basement area. Several participants also used dowsing rods and they would consistently point toward the windows in the Winter kitchen when asked where the spirits were. Also during this session a participant saw a dark figure walk down the hall toward the cellar and office area. We also got “yes” responses to questions about Robert being in the room with us.

Third session group 2 began at 9:02 pm lasting 25min 10 seconds. There were some bangs that came from other areas of the basement when we knocked out “Shave and a Haircut”.  We did receive a ‘Yes” when asked if Hannah was here, and there was continued dowsing rod activity. There was also some EMF light activity in response to questions. When we asked Hannah who her favorite person was the word “Dad” came through. There was some dowsing rod activity again pointing to the windows when asked where the spirit communicating with us was, we believed him to be “Robert”. Also on several occasions the ENF lights would all light up when we asked Robert to light them. We also received the word “Book” on the spirit box. The participants told us that they there had been mention of a book during investigations in other parts of the cottage that night.

The fourth and final session was with group 1 which began at 9:35 pm and lasted for 33 min 15 seconds. There was a good deal of dowsing rod activity especially with one of the male participants. The batteries also had to be changed once again for the spirit box as once again the batteries had been completely drained. When asked: Robert are you here? The spirit box responded, “That’s me” When asked who his favorite person was in the room the word “Barbara” came through the spirit box. When asked if the spirit could light up the EMF detector the word “No” came from spirit box but then a couple of seconds later the lights on the EMF meter did light up. The dowsing rods also moved for several participants on command. When asked “Robert” to point to his favorite person with the dowsing rods one of the two rods moved to point to this investigator. The other rod did not move. When asked what the favorite food was of the spirit the word “Pie” came through and when asked how many people were in the room the word “8” came through which was the correct answer. Then a very clear woman’s voice came through that was “Hello” and the EMF lights came on. Then we asked if the spirit could point the Dowsing rods where he was the work “Yes” came through the spirit box, and the dowsing rods again pointed to the windows.

Stan Suho: Back to Rockford for another one of Kathy’s Ghost Investigations /demonstrations. This time we were at the Tinker Swiss complex. I was teamed up with Greg. We were assigned the Carriage House. This is not a very active location. We did a demonstration of our IR Ghost Camera setup in a dark room with the monitor in the Conference Room. Then Greg gave an EVP demo followed by a lesson on using Dowsing Rods.  Also setup was a laptop running Audacity software an audio analyzer. After a demo of the setup, Greg took over. This usually led to a discussion of ghost subjects and testing their skills on the Rods. Several people showed skill in their use. All too soon Kathy would give us a toot and we would rotate. After assembling in the Barn for milk and cookies, we called it a night. I think everyone came away with a better understanding of ghosts.

Dale Kaczmarek: I used the Radio Specter which can be adjusted for a slower or very fast sweep of the AM radio band. I did receive several full sentences which I’m not entirely convinced came from a spirit but most likely the AM radio. The function of this device is to sweep the AM radio band without all the normal noise produced by other ghost boxes. In that regards, it worked nicely.

The Tri-Field Natural EM Meter did fluctuate a bit during one of the sessions and was noted by one of the participants. This happened during a SB-11 Ghost Box session which produced a lot of background noise so the normal sound emitted by the device was not heard.

It was extremely hot, around 81 degrees, in the Red Room and a number of participants commented on being somewhat uncomfortable.  I did receive some direct responses on several devices and sometimes some unsolicited ones as well. We also heard what sounded some explicatives come through from time to time.

What tinker2017.MPG – while conducting a Ghost Box session for Session #4, Group #3, a question was asked, “Can you come over here and roll the dice?” The Ghost Box responds with, What?”

Conclusions: Besides picking perhaps the hottest place to investigate, all the sessions went quite well. A cold spot or breeze would have been a welcome relief but none were felt. All groups maintained themselves in a professional manner and there was no whispering in the background or talking. Many direct responses were heard and most of them on the new device, the Radio Specter which I was pleased with.

With all the different ways of conducting a real-time, two-way communication with spirits, it betters our chances of someone talking to us and the spirits here did not disappoint us again. I believe that everyone had a good time even though a few found some of the devices a bit annoying with is to be expected. Listen to them as long as we do, and you would be annoyed as well.
